With what hand am I reaching out into a place?

While an artist-in-residence at University of Hawaiʻi, Mānoa's Glass Department, I wrestled with questions of place, nativity, and forms of knowing. Along the way, I partnered with the Education Department at The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, which made it possible for me to use and melt locally sourced pumice for my casts. This photo series became one of the ways I was able to work intimately with such potent material without compromising indigenous values. All casts were eventually donated to the Bishop Museum or left on the Big Island.
